When visiting Japan with a baby, your stroller becomes more than just a way to get around. It’s a mobile nap pod, a high chair substitute, and a safe place to contain your adorable chaos while you eat. But here’s the catch: not all restaurants in Japan (or anywhere!) are stroller-friendly.
That’s why I started keeping a list of restaurants that actually worked for us, places with space, ramps or elevators, and staff that welcomed families instead of side-eyeing us at the door.
Trust me: finding stroller-friendly restaurants is the difference between a peaceful nap and a mid-meal meltdown. Here’s where we went and loved.

🍳 Tokyo Area Favorites for Japan with a baby
Whether you’re brunching or indulging in wagyu, these spots were spacious, kind, and stroller-accommodating:
- Eggs N Things – Hawaiian-style brunch spot with roomy seating and pancakes the size of your baby’s head.
- Sen Rikyu Tokyu Plaza – A surprisingly stroller-friendly spot for grilled beef tongue (gyutan) in a sleek department store setting.
- METoA Café & Kitchen – Trendy Australian café with wide tables and a relaxed, modern vibe.
- Buco Di Muro – Cozy but stroller-accessible Italian restaurant near Ginza. Outdoor seating available. Staff were so sweet with our baby.
- Ginza Wagyu Lab – A hidden gem for sukiyaki; quiet atmosphere, spacious seating for strollers at the table.
- Ginza Innit – Fusion-style fine dining that made space for us without fuss.
- Yakiniku Kaiseki Tangyu Ginza – Upscale yakiniku that welcomed our stroller and helped us navigate the grill safely.
- Muji Flagship Cafe – Accessible location for simple, fresh, and nourishing meals complete with shopping and art exhibits. You and your partner can even take turns sipping cocktails or coffee and relaxing with baby while the other goes shopping.
🌿 Kyoto & Arashiyama Picks for Japan with a baby
Arashiyama (the bamboo grove & river area):
- Iwano Soba – Tucked-away soba spot with enough floor space to roll in your stroller and breathe.
- Yoshimura Soba – Scenic river views, wide seating areas, and staff used to tourists with kids.
Kyoto (city center + beyond):
- Kyoto Beer Lab – Surprisingly chill craft beer spot where baby slept while we sipped.
- Wamon Izakaya – Authentic izakaya that didn’t flinch at the sight of a baby carrier and stroller duo.
- Aeon Mall Food Court – Not glamorous, but reliable, with elevators, family seating, and easy nursing rooms.
- Atelier Kyo Baum – Dessert café famous for matcha baumkuchen (baby stayed asleep the whole time). Outdoor turf rooftop perfect for toddlers and babies to stretch their legs and play.
- Kyoto Modern Terrace – Elegant spot with stroller-ready terrace seating and incredible seasonal dishes. Large open space accommodates noise.
- Wagyu Chikarayama – One of the best wagyu steaks we had. Bonus: space for our sleeping baby beside the table. Staff were exceptionally kind and helped us manage baby as we ate.
- Natural Café – Organic, low-key, and a quiet moment in the middle of Kyoto bustle.
- 58 Dinner – A casual, Western-style diner that gave off retro American vibes and plenty of stroller room.
🧠 Why This Matters
When you’re traveling with a baby, every peaceful moment matters. Choosing restaurants that support your rhythm, rather than disrupt it, is key to actually enjoying your meals and your trip.
We used our stroller as a napping station, a safe zone, and our secret weapon during long meals. With the right restaurants, we never had to wake baby or feel rushed to leave. We could relax, eat delicious food, and breathe.
💡 Pro Tip: Plan Ahead
Before each day, we mapped out stroller-friendly restaurants near our activities. That way, when hunger hit or baby needed to nap, we already had options ready and no stress-scrolling through Google Maps while carrying 18 pounds of cranky cuteness.
Of course, it’s not all about the food! For a list of baby friendly activities, read on here.
