We don’t talk enough about the science of Dad’

We don’t talk enough about the science of Dad’s play. But we should.

A major study out of the University of Leeds tracked 5,000 families for 7 years. They found that how much Dad plays predicts:

- Better school readiness
- Emotional regulation
- Stronger social skills

And it starts EARLY.

By 3 months old, babies whose dads engage in play show better cognitive + language outcomes by age 2.

How?

🧠 Dad’s playful, risk-oriented style stimulates parts of the brain linked to decision making + motor learning.

❤️ Physical play with Dad releases bonding and reward hormones (oxytocin + dopamine).

🛡️ It builds secure attachment through joy, a powerful combination.

Your child needs BOTH nurturing AND playful challenge.

Don’t underestimate Dad’s role.
